Bitcoin Under Pressure as Crypto Market Liquidations Reach US$583 Million

The cryptocurrency market came under significant pressure again in today’s trading session, as weakness in Bitcoin (BTC) prices triggered a wave of large-scale liquidations across global crypto exchanges. Market data show that total trading liquidations reached approximately US$583 million over the past 24 hours, with the majority stemming from long positions that were forcibly closed amid intensifying selling pressure. Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, fell by more than 4 percent and briefly broke below the US$86,000 level. This decline extended a downward trend that has persisted over the past several days. Similar pressure was also seen across other major cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum (ETH), which slipped below key psychological price levels.

Panic Selling Triggers Forced Liquidations

Data indicate that the rapid price decline led to forced liquidations in leveraged futures contracts. Such conditions typically occur when prices break through key technical support levels within a short period of time. Most of the recent liquidations originated from traders who had opened long positions in anticipation of further price gains, only to be caught off guard as Bitcoin weakened. At the same time, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index dropped to low levels and entered the “extreme fear” zone, reflecting heightened investor caution and a growing tendency among market participants to reduce risk amid elevated volatility.

Pressure Spreads to Altcoins

Bitcoin’s weakness also weighed heavily on the broader crypto market. Several tokens across the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector, Layer-1 networks, and Layer-2 projects experienced synchronized selling pressure. Overall, the majority of large-cap cryptocurrencies posted negative daily performance, deepening the broader market correction.

Analyst Views and Market Outlook

Some analysts believe that large-scale liquidation events not only reflect elevated short-term volatility but may also create opportunities for long-term investors to accumulate positions gradually. Nevertheless, as long as market sentiment has yet to show signs of recovery and Bitcoin has not established a new technical support level, heightened volatility is expected to persist in the near term.
