The government has officially announced the implementation of a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) for one day each week, specifically on Fridays, as a preventive measure against the spillover effects of the Middle East conflict, which has influenced global energy price volatility.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that this policy is part of the government’s anticipatory measures included in the national work culture transformation program, which emphasizes efficiency and modernization.
He explained that the WFH policy will apply to civil servants at both central and regional levels for one working day every Friday.
Airlangga also noted that the detailed regulations for this policy will be outlined in a circular issued by the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB).
In addition, the policy includes a 50% reduction in the use of official vehicles.
Through the PANRB ministerial circular, the government aims to accelerate digital transformation and improve mobility efficiency, including limiting official vehicle usage and encouraging the use of public transportation.
He added that the policy will take effect starting April 1, 2026.
