Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto plans to establish a special task force for disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Aceh, North Sumatra, and South Sumatra. The task force will be responsible for building both temporary shelters and permanent housing for communities affected by recent disasters.
Prabowo stated that, according to a report from Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait, the government is expected to begin constructing around 2,000 housing units starting this Sunday.
“Starting this Sunday, we may begin building approximately 2,000 homes, and most of them are likely to be permanent houses. Therefore, all parties must work together and avoid making excuses about land availability. We can use state-owned land, including land owned by PTPN or even forestry concessions if necessary,” Prabowo said while delivering remarks at a Cabinet Plenary Meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday (December 15, 2025).
Regarding funding, Prabowo emphasized that the government has already allocated the necessary budget through the State Budget (APBN). The funds are derived from savings generated through government spending efficiency.
“The state budget has been prepared, and I want to stress that the funds are available. In fact, the government under my leadership has managed to save hundreds of trillions of rupiah, even though I was heavily criticized and accused of making the wrong decision with these efficiency measures,” Prabowo asserted.
