Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasized that the Ministry of Finance has allocated a budget for the purchase of Maung vehicles to serve as official cars for the Red and White Cabinet members.

However, he revealed that PT Pindad (Persero), the manufacturer of Maung, currently lacks sufficient production capacity.

“Clearly, this year we have actually budgeted for Maung vehicles, and in significant numbers. However, production capacity is still insufficient to meet the requested design,” Purbaya told reporters at the Ministry of Finance Office on Tuesday (October 21, 2025).

As a result, Purbaya explained that the funds already allocated will be carried over to next year.

If this procurement plan is realized, the government could potentially save around IDR 109.18 billion. CNBC Indonesia’s rough calculations indicate that purchasing 103 Maung units at IDR 600 million each would be much cheaper compared to 103 Alphard 2.5 HEV Premium Color units, priced at IDR 1.66 billion each.

The total of 103 vehicles accounts for 48 ministers in the Red and White Cabinet, with their 55 deputy ministers included. Therefore, the expenditure for 103 Maung units at IDR 600 million amounts to IDR 61.8 billion, while for Alphard 2.5 HEV Premium Color units at IDR 1.66 billion, it totals IDR 170.98 billion.

For reference, the MV3 Garuda Limousine is specially developed from the MV3 series for the President and Vice President of Indonesia. The vehicle is white, with an exclusive and masculine appearance, offering high protection and comfort through premium materials and advanced features.

The Garuda weighs 2.95 tons, with dimensions of approximately 5.05 meters in length, 2.06 meters in width, and 1.87 meters in height, featuring a long wheelbase design for spacious comfort. It is powered by a 202 PS/199 HP engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a top speed of 100 km/h.

Within its alpalhankam product portfolio, Pindad prioritizes vehicle protection. The car features composite armor body capable of withstanding 7.62 x 51 mm NATO ball and 5.56 x 45 mm M193 rounds, bulletproof glass level B5/B6, and R21 Run Flat Tyres (RFT) that can continue driving even if punctured on the road.
