Warren Buffett’s investment firm, Berkshire Hathaway, has officially appointed Greg Abel as its new chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2026, marking his succession of the legendary investor. Following his appointment, Abel received a substantial pay increase, with his annual salary rising to US$25 million, equivalent to approximately Rp419.55 billion. The compensation adjustment was filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last Tuesday and took effect on the same date.

Buffett has openly expressed strong support for Abel in his new role. Speaking to CNBC’s Becky Quick in May, Buffett stated that he would rather entrust Abel with managing his money than any leading investment advisor or top CEO in the United States.

Describing the endorsement as a significant vote of confidence, Buffett said it reflected long-standing support, as quoted by CNBC on Wednesday (January 7, 2026).

Prior to becoming CEO, Abel served as vice chairman overseeing Berkshire’s non-insurance operations. In that position, he earned a salary of US$21 million in 2024, along with an additional US$17,250 in other compensation, according to a 2025 regulatory filing.

During the same period, Buffett, who was still leading the company, received an annual salary of US$100,000, plus US$305,111 in additional compensation in 2024.
