The latest diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East have once again reached a deadlock after Iran reportedly rejected a 48-hour ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States. The rejection comes amid intensifying military attacks and a worsening security situation in the region.
According to a report by the semi-official Fars News Agency on Friday (April 3, 2026), the proposal was delivered to Tehran on Thursday through an intermediary country described as “friendly.” The outlet cited a source familiar with the process.
The source further revealed that Washington has stepped up its diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire, particularly following Iran’s strike targeting a U.S. “military troop depot” on Bubiyan Island, located in Kuwait.
Fars reported that prevailing assessments suggest the proposal was made after the regional crisis escalated and “serious problems” emerged for U.S. forces due to Washington’s “miscalculation” of Iran’s military capabilities.
The report also noted that Iran did not provide a written response to the proposal, but instead responded by continuing its attacks on the battlefield.
The escalation of the conflict began on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched coordinated strikes on Tehran and several other cities in Iran. The attacks resulted in the death of Iran’s then-Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians.
In retaliation, Iran launched waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. assets across multiple locations in the Middle East, thereby expanding the conflict and heightening the risk of further escalation in the region.
