DIGIVESTASI - The Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, revealed that an attempt to smuggle illegal goods valued at IDR 3.7 trillion had been successfully thwarted. He emphasized that the government would continue strengthening inter-agency synergy to prevent illegal goods from entering the domestic market.
"Since President Prabowo Subianto took office in 2024, the government has successfully intercepted illegal goods with a total value of IDR 3.7 trillion," Budi stated in an official statement on Saturday (January 25, 2025).
Items seized during this operation included illegal cigarettes, electronic devices, cosmetics, lobster seeds, alcoholic beverages, and various other commodities. Additionally, authorities apprehended 552 individuals suspected of being part of an international smuggling network. "A total of 552 individuals have been detained to undergo legal proceedings," he added.
The anti-smuggling operations were conducted through coordination among a dedicated task force under the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Ministry of Industry, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the Attorney General’s Office.
"The government will continue to enhance monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure no opportunities are left for smugglers," Budi asserted.
