The bilateral relations between Indonesia and Brazil have grown increasingly close. This strengthened partnership was highlighted by a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta.
President Lula was officially received by President Prabowo on Wednesday (October 22, 2025), and following their meeting, both nations signed eight cooperation agreements involving government institutions and business entities from Indonesia and Brazil.
Prabowo announced that the total value of the economic cooperation agreements signed during the meeting amounted to over US$ 5 billion, equivalent to approximately Rp 83 trillion, based on an exchange rate of Rp 16,600 per US dollar.
"Today, we witnessed a significant economic partnership being formalized, with agreements valued at more than US$ 5 billion," said Prabowo during a joint press conference held after the meeting on Thursday (October 23, 2025).
He further explained that this investment amount represents around 25% of Indonesia’s total annual direct investment inflows.
"Our total direct investment in one year is about US$ 20 billion. So, if this agreement is realized, God willing, by next year, it will account for nearly 25% of Indonesia’s total direct investment," Prabowo stated.
The eight cooperation agreements signed between Indonesia and Brazil include:
Signing and Exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Federative Republic of Brazil on Cooperation in Energy and Mining.
MoU between the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of Indonesia and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Brazil on Cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation.
MoU between the Indonesian Quarantine Agency and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil on Cooperation in Sanitary, Phytosanitary, and Certification Measures.
MoU between the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Indonesia and the Institute of Geography and Statistics of Brazil on Statistical Cooperation.
MoU between Danantara Indonesia and JBS Brazil.
MoU between PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) – PLN Indonesia and J&F S.A. Brazil.
MoU between PT Pertamina (Persero) and Fluxus.
