JCI Opens Lower, Rupiah Weakens Amid Mixed Asian Market Movements

The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) started Wednesday’s (March 19, 2025) trading session in the red, dropping 7.731 points (0.12%) to 6,215.656 at market open. During the pre-opening session, JCI also declined 2.192 points (0.04%) to 6,221.196.

 

In the foreign exchange market, the Indonesian rupiah weakened against the US dollar. According to Bloomberg data, as of 08:57 AM WIB, the rupiah was trading at IDR 16,428 per US dollar, down 22 points (0.13%) from its previous level.

 

Asian Stock Market Performance This Morning

Across Asian markets, stock indices showed mixed movements in the morning session:

  • Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index rose 196.601 points (0.52%) to 38,042.000.
  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 88.980 points (0.36%) to 24,651.589.
  • China’s SSE Composite Index fell 13.709 points (0.40%) to 3,416.050.
  • Singapore’s Straits Times Index edged up 19.130 points (0.02%) to 3,914.100.
