The Governor of West Java (Jabar), Dedi Mulyadi—also known as KDM—has denied allegations that the West Java Regional Government (Pemda Jabar) keeps Rp 4.1 trillion in the form of bank deposits. According to KDM, the truth is that the regional funds are held in checking accounts (giro), not in deposits.
This statement drew a response from Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who argued that such a move was financially disadvantageous, as interest rates on checking accounts are much lower than those on deposits.
"Some claim their money isn’t in deposits but in checking accounts. That’s even worse, since the interest is lower," said Purbaya at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta, on Thursday (October 23, 2025).
The former Chairman of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) also suggested that the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) might step in to investigate the matter. "If the funds are really placed in checking accounts, the BPK will likely audit it," said Purbaya.
Regarding the discrepancy in local government fund data between Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Purbaya stated that he currently has no plans to hold talks with those parties, emphasizing that data coordination falls under BI’s authority.
It is noted that there is a difference of about Rp 18 trillion between the two data sources. As of September 30, 2025, BI’s records show that regional government funds stored in banks total Rp 233.97 trillion, while Kemendagri’s figure is Rp 215 trillion.
"No, I don’t plan to meet about it—it’s not my business. Let BI collect the data; I only rely on data from the central bank," he added.
Purbaya further mentioned that he has no plans to meet regional heads who dispute the claim that their government funds are parked in banks. Instead, he advised them to directly verify the matter with BI.
"Just ask BI, since those figures come from their partner banks. They can’t possibly monitor every single account," said Purbaya.
Previously, KDM had rejected Purbaya’s accusation that regional government funds were being held in banks as deposits. His rebuttal was based on information received from Bank Indonesia.
KDM emphasized that there were no regional government funds totaling Rp 4.1 trillion stored in deposits. The actual figure, based on data as of September 30, 2025, is Rp 3.8 trillion kept in regional treasury accounts (giro).
"So, is there really Rp 4.1 trillion in deposits? No. The financial report as of September 30 shows Rp 3.8 trillion stored in the regional treasury as giro funds. The rest consists of BLUD deposits outside the regional treasury, which are under each BLUD’s own authority," said KDM in a video post on his Instagram account @dedimulyadi71, on Wednesday (October 22, 2025).
