Giant Debris Incident at China Space Station: Impact and Next Steps

DIGIVESTASI - The Chinese space station crew successfully completed repairs after massive debris hit the facility. The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said in a press conference this week that part of the facility's power supply was out of service and no longer functioning.

A large piece of space debris struck a power cable connected to the wing of the power core module. Taikonauts (Chinese astronauts) quickly repaired the damage via two space flights to the Pouron base.
According to DigitalTrends, the crew is scheduled to return to Earth on April 30 after handing over station operations to the next-arriving Shenzhou 18 crew.

In addition, CMSA is working to simplify alert and response procedures to similar incidents. CMSA says it has reduced the false alarm rate by 30%. To improve safety measures, high-resolution cameras have been installed at Tiangong Station, as well as cameras that can be attached to ancient fliers during expeditions.

After the cameras are checked and analyzed, a report on the cosmetic condition of the station will be provided.
The Chinese space station orbits about 450 miles above Earth and about 30 miles above the International Space Station (ISS). The space debris that hit the Chinese station was clearly of a different composition. Debris is usually the remains of satellites, rocket parts or other assembled objects.
