DIGIVESTASI - Starlink was licensed to operate in Indonesia and began providing consumer internet services in collaboration with local internet connectivity service providers (network access providers). The first Starlink connection begins with testing in the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) after Eid al-Fitr. Minister of Communications and Informatics Budi Ali Setiadi said the Starlink internet trial plan is still being discussed in IKN. However, he acknowledged Starlink could provide Internet directly to consumers as part of the B2C system.

He emphasized that Starlink must be subject to the same regulations as other internet companies before receiving a license to operate. "A clear business must be fair, the playing field must be level, and everyone must comply with the existing regulations," the Minister said on Wednesday (March 4, 2024). Wayan Toni Supulyanto, Director General of Postal Information Technology, explained that Starlink plans to start testing services at IKN after Idul Fitri. Starlink has applied for two operating licenses in Indonesia. One as a VSAT provider and the other as an Internet provider (ISP).  

"So they could have been stuck on the internet. He works with the NAP." "Maybe the PKS (cooperation agreement) has not been finalized," he said. He explained that Starlink plans to expand nationally. For VSAT services, Elon Musk's company is building hubs and other infrastructure. 

However, Wayan emphasized that the company managing Starlink services in Indonesia is an Indonesia-based company and not the global Starlink. 

"That is why there is a difference between global and Indonesian Starlink." "They are global, only Starlink. Once Starlink Indonesia gets permission from VSAT and ISPs, it's the same as any other operator in Indonesia," he said. 
Starlink Indonesia will continue to purchase ground station equipment and internet access from Starlink to support VSAT and ISP services. 

"Buy the internet at Starlink Global, don't get confused with Starlink Global. That's why we need to build a hub here," said Wayan.
