DIGIVESTASI - SpaceX Holds 8,285 Bitcoin, Gains Reach $700 Million, SpaceX, the American aerospace company led by Elon Musk, reportedly holds 8,285 Bitcoin (BTC) worth approximately $851 million, or around IDR 13.93 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of $1 = IDR 16,375), according to data from Arkham Intelligence.

This investment has generated a profit of around $700 million since 2022. Last Friday, Arkham Intelligence confirmed that SpaceX’s Bitcoin holdings had increased in value by $695.24 million since November 29, 2022.

The Bitcoin owned by SpaceX is reportedly stored in Coinbase Prime and has remained untouched for the past three years. The surge in Bitcoin prices, which surpassed $100,000 by the end of 2024, has further boosted the company’s asset value.

According to Cryptopolitan News, SpaceX first recorded Bitcoin holdings worth $373 million in 2021, when BTC was priced at around $46,000 per coin. At its peak, the company held 25,600 BTC. However, when Bitcoin prices plummeted to $20,000 in May 2022, SpaceX sold a portion of its crypto assets worth $450 million, incurring a loss.

Currently, the company still holds approximately 8,900 BTC in reserve.

Tesla’s Crypto Strategy Mirrors SpaceX

Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer also led by Elon Musk, has adopted a similar crypto investment strategy to SpaceX.

In 2021, Tesla purchased $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin and briefly accepted BTC as payment for its vehicles. However, the company later sold part of its holdings in 2021 and 2022, with total sales reaching $936 million when Bitcoin’s price dropped below $40,000.

As of now, Tesla still holds 11,500 BTC, valued at over $1.1 billion. However, the company discontinued Bitcoin as a payment method in May 2021 due to environmental concerns related to Bitcoin mining.

"We are concerned about the increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining," Musk stated on X.
