Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian stated that the policy of implementing a one-day work from home (WFH) scheme per week for civil servants and private sector employees is still awaiting direction from President Prabowo Subianto.
“Once we receive instructions from the President, it will then be officially announced. Please be patient,” Tito said when met at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (March 25, 2026).
He explained that the relevant ministers had already held a coordination meeting to finalize the policy on Tuesday (March 24, 2026).
Tito also expressed no objection to implementing a one-day WFH scheme for civil servants within the Ministry of Home Affairs and regional governments. He noted that the government already has experience implementing a similar system during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“At the Ministry of Home Affairs, even with only 25 percent working from the office, operations continued. So this is not something new, as we already have experience,” he said.
He added that he would provide further explanation to regional leaders regarding the policy.
“Essential services such as transportation, emergency services, hospitals, and sanitation must continue to operate,” Tito added.
However, Tito declined to disclose further details regarding the one-day WFH policy, including which day would be designated.
The Presidential Palace emphasized that the WFH policy will only apply to certain sectors.
The government confirmed that the plan to implement one day of WFH per week will not apply to all sectors.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the policy will only apply to sectors where remote work is feasible.
“It needs to be clarified that this policy will only apply to certain sectors to avoid misunderstandings. For example, service, industrial, and trade sectors will likely not be included,” Prasetyo said at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Saturday (June 21, 2026).
He also stated that the policy is still under formulation.
“We are currently refining and finalizing it, and it will be communicated to the public as soon as possible,” he said.
According to Prasetyo, the plan is part of the President’s directive during a plenary cabinet meeting aimed at improving efficiency in the workplace, including in the government sector.
“As conveyed by the President during the plenary cabinet session, we are formulating policies to enhance efficiency in how we work,” Prasetyo said.
