U.S. President Donald Trump responded to Israel’s attack on its ally, Qatar. Reports indicated that Israel launched an airstrike on the Qatari capital, Doha, on Tuesday, killing six people.

It was reported that Trump reprimanded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He insisted that he played no role in the attack carried out by one of America’s closest allies against another.

Trump stated that he had tried to intervene, but “unfortunately, it was too late” to prevent Israel’s assault on the Gulf nation.

“This was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, not a decision made by me,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, Wednesday (September 10, 2025).

“I consider Qatar a strong ally and a friend of the United States, and I am deeply concerned about the location of this attack,” he added, while noting that eliminating Hamas remained “a noble objective.”

Israel’s strike on Doha was particularly sensitive. In addition to its role in Gaza negotiations, Qatar also hosts a major U.S. air base and had recently welcomed Trump during his Middle East tour earlier this year.

The resource-rich nation had also recently gifted the U.S. a luxury Boeing 747-8 jet, which Trump planned to use for his presidential agenda—a move that sparked ethical debate in Washington.

“Unilaterally bombing Qatar, a sovereign nation and a close ally of the United States, which has worked tirelessly and taken risks alongside us to broker peace, does not serve the goals of either Israel or America,” Trump stressed.

Too Late

Trump went to great lengths to emphasize that the U.S. was caught off guard by the attack. He revealed that the White House had been informed by the U.S. military that Israel was targeting Hamas operatives who, unfortunately, were located in Doha.

“I immediately ordered Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to notify Qatar about the impending strike, which he did, but sadly, the warning came too late to stop the attack,” Trump claimed.

The U.S. President also mentioned that he had spoken with Netanyahu after the incident and sought to frame the event in a positive light.

“The Prime Minister told me he wants to achieve peace. I believe this tragic incident could become an opportunity for PEACE,” Trump added.

Unusual Move

Trump’s reprimand of Netanyahu was highly unusual, as he has offered near-unwavering support to the Israeli leader since returning to the Oval Office in January.

When Qatar lodged complaints over the strike, Trump said he had directed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to finalize a defense cooperation agreement with Doha. He also reassured Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in a phone call after the Israeli attack that “such an incident will not happen again in their territory.”

Qatar’s Response

Qatar, however, insisted that it had not received any prior warning about the attack and vowed to issue a formal response.

“The phone call we received from an American official came only after explosions from the Israeli strikes were already heard in Doha,” said Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, on platform X.

Earlier, Qatar had already found itself caught in the crossfire of Middle Eastern tensions. In June, Iran launched missiles at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in retaliation for American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
