President Joko Widodo revealed that the 43rd ASEAN Summit has reached an agreement on the development of the electric vehicle (EV) industry in collaboration with South Korea, Japan, and China.

"We are grateful to have successfully reached this agreement to develop the EV ecosystem from start to finish, with full support from the People's Republic of China, Japan, and Korea," said Jokowi during a press conference at the Jakarta Convention Center on Thursday (September 7, 2023).

Furthermore, the 43rd ASEAN Summit also resulted in various agreements that have tangible impacts on the economy. For example, there is the East Asian Summit declaration on the Growth Epicenter, as well as agreements to expedite cross-border regional payments and transactions using local currencies.

Jokowi also mentioned that the Asian Indo Pacific Forum held during the ASEAN Summit has generated 93 projects worth a total of 38.2 billion US dollars. All of these are concrete forms of cooperation that directly benefit the people.

President Jokowi reaffirmed Indonesia and ASEAN's commitment to advocating for the interests of Pacific nations and developing countries. One of the focal points of their efforts is to drive forward downstream industries for the welfare of developing countries' populations.

"Indonesia and ASEAN will continue to be a voice for the interests of Pacific nations and developing countries, including their right to welfare through the development of downstream industries," said Jokowi.
