Throughout 2023, thousands of workers in the province of Banten are facing layoffs. These layoffs are not without clear reasons.

According to Septo Kalnadi, the Head of the Department of Manpower and Transmigration in Banten Province, this wave of layoffs is triggered by many companies choosing to relocate their operations outside the region. It is suspected that this decision is related to the high labor costs in the area.

Septo explained, "Company relocations have already occurred in several cases. I will examine data from various districts and cities regarding this."

It was previously reported that a significant wave of layoffs has affected workers in Banten Province. According to Septo Kalnadi, thousands of employees have lost their jobs in various areas, such as Panarukan City and Tangerang City, where 2,900 employees were affected by layoffs at PT Nikomas. Additionally, South Tangerang City (Tangsel) also experienced a surge in layoffs.

Septo revealed that, based on the data available to him, there have been approximately four thousand employees laid off by various companies throughout 2023. However, these figures may change as new information is received from the local government at the district or city level regarding these layoff cases.

He also emphasized that companies planning to carry out layoffs are required to report their actions, and they are still waiting for the official reports from the districts or cities regarding the company permits. "Because the company permits are under the jurisdiction of the districts or cities, not at the provincial level," he added.
