Chinese Smartphones Moving Away from Android, What's the Future for Google?

Several Chinese smartphone manufacturers are reducing their reliance on the Android operating system. Especially companies like Xiaomi and Huawei are currently developing their own operating systems. Both of these companies are striving to integrate their various products, from phones to smart home devices, under one operating system.

 

Xiaomi recently introduced HyperOS as a replacement for MiUI. Although HyperOS still relies on the Android foundation developed by Google, this change marks a step towards greater independence. HyperOS can be considered as the result of a "fusion" between Android and Xiaomi's Internet of Things (IoT) platform named Vela.
