The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has provided an update regarding the future of Roblox in Indonesia, following growing demands directed at the online gaming platform.
According to Komdigi, Roblox has expressed its commitment to supporting Indonesia in safeguarding children within the digital space.
This commitment was conveyed through an official letter addressed to Komdigi after a meeting with the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, in August.
In the letter, Roblox affirmed its readiness to cooperate with the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) to review game classifications and make adjustments when necessary. This move is also intended as a form of support for local game developers.
Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid welcomed the initiative positively. She appreciated Roblox’s willingness to align with Indonesia’s regulations.
“This demonstrates that constructive dialogue can result in concrete actions to protect Indonesian children while also strengthening the digital creative industry ecosystem,” Meutya stated in a written release, quoted on Friday (Sept 12, 2025).
In addition, Roblox also plans to share the findings of an economic impact study, which highlights the company’s contribution to the growth of local developers in Indonesia.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining open dialogue with global platforms, ensuring that Indonesia does not merely serve as a user market, but also evolves into a hub for digital talent and a safe, inclusive online environment.
During a previous meeting, Menkomdigi urged Roblox to immediately implement improvements to comply with child protection regulations in Indonesia. This request was conveyed after she met with representatives of Roblox Asia Pacific at the Komdigi Office in Central Jakarta, on Thursday (Aug 14, 2025).
Komdigi also asked Roblox to restrict communication among child users, filter out vulgar user-generated content, and provide clearer parental control features.
“These improvements are essential to ensure Indonesian children are protected from potentially harmful content and interactions in the digital space,” she stressed.
She further expressed hope that Roblox, as a registered Electronic System Provider (PSE) since 2022, could serve as an example of a platform that prioritizes the safety of young users.
At that time, Komdigi also set a deadline for Roblox to carry out the necessary improvements and announced plans to conduct periodic evaluations to ensure the game complies with Indonesia’s regulations.
