Chinese e-commerce giants Temu and Shein have begun increasing their product prices ahead of new tariffs being imposed by the United States (US). Shein has officially announced this adjustment.
According to Shein, the price hikes are due to changes in global trade tariff policies. However, it remains unclear which product categories will be affected by the price increases.
"Due to recent changes in global trade rules and tariffs, our operational costs have risen. To continue offering you the products you love without compromising on quality, we will be adjusting our prices," Shein stated in a recent online announcement, as reported by CNN on Monday (April 28, 2025).
CNN observed that two patio chairs listed on Temu were priced at US$ 61.72 on Thursday, but the price increased to US$ 70.17 by Friday. Similarly, a swimsuit set on Shein, which was priced at US$ 4.39 on Thursday, rose to US$ 8.39 on Friday, marking a 91% jump.
However, not all items saw price increases; some products were also observed to have price reductions.
Temu also posted an announcement regarding the upcoming price hikes due to higher operational costs driven by global trade tariff changes. The new prices took effect starting April 25, 2025.
Thus, Temu encouraged customers to make purchases before April 25 to avoid paying higher prices.
"Due to the recent changes in global trade regulations and tariffs, our operating costs have increased. To continue providing you with the products you love without sacrificing quality, we will be adjusting our prices starting April 25, 2025," Temu stated.
Despite these announcements, neither Shein nor Temu has provided further confirmation regarding this information.
