U.S. President Donald Trump has eased his stance on global import tariffs, offering temporary relief to most countries—including Indonesia—amid growing trade tensions sparked by his earlier reciprocal tariff policy.
Indonesia, previously subjected to a 32 percent import duty, will now see a reduced tariff rate of just 10 percent on goods entering the U.S.
According to The Guardian on Thursday (April 10, 2025), Trump announced a 90-day suspension of high tariffs for most countries, with the notable exception of China. Instead of receiving a reprieve, Chinese imports will face an increased tariff of 125 percent.
Trump stated that nations that chose not to retaliate against U.S. tariffs would benefit from this temporary exemption, facing only a flat 10 percent U.S. tariff during the suspension period.
The easing of tariffs is a temporary measure, set to last until July 2025, after which the policy will be reassessed based on international trade developments.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that China remains excluded from this relief. “When you hit the United States, President Trump hits back harder,” she said firmly.
