DIGIVESTASI - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) announced that there is an opportunity for Indonesia to supply components for photovoltaic power plants (PLTS). This stems from the large potential of silica sand that can be utilized to support this industry.

Zisman P. Futajul, Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said that given the large potential of silica sand in the country, the government is preparing to develop an upstream solar panel industry. One of them is being built on Lempang Island in the Riau Islands.

"This country has silica sand which is the raw material for the development of solar power plants. We have tried to prepare Rempang, one of which is a solar panel factory, and there are many more factories in Central Java and East Java. This is our opportunity," he said at the PLN Road to Investment Days 2024 event, Wednesday, June 3. Zisman said that the PLN Road to Investment Days 2024 (PLN Road to Investment Days 2024) was held in Jakarta.

Zisman said that Indonesia itself actually has the potential for new renewable energy (EBT) of 3.6 terawatts (TW). However, its use is still relatively low. In fact, the price of electricity from several types of EBT plants is currently considered economical. For example, the electricity tariff for Cirata solar power plant is currently 5.8 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). "Then we plan to expand further," he said.

Previously, Zisman estimated that RI needs at least 3.3 million solar panels to achieve an additional 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of rooftop solar capacity. Both those connected through the PLN network and those connected through non-PLN networks.

He said that the rooftop solar PV program could boost domestic solar module production. "The target of 1 GW per year for rooftop PLTS connected to the PLN network and 0.5 GW per year for non-PLN will require the production of around 3.3 million solar modules with the assumption that the capacity of one solar panel is 450 Wp. the growth of the solar module industry in Indonesia," said Mr. Zisman at the socialization event of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 2 of 2024 concerning Rooftop PLTS on Tuesday (5 March 2024).

As is known, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has just issued a revised regulation regarding the use of rooftop solar power plants. The regulation is contained in Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation (Pelmen) Number 2 of 2024.
