DIGIVESTASI - President-elect for 2024, Prabowo Subianto, plans to abolish the 16% housing tax at the beginning of his term. This plan was revealed by the Chairman of Prabowo's Housing Task Force, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, who explained that the taxes to be removed include the 5% Land and Building Acquisition Duty (BPHTB) and 11% Value Added Tax (VAT).

“This is our recommendation to the government to remove the 16% tax temporarily,” said Hashim at the Propertinomic Executive Dialogue in Jakarta, Thursday (11/10).

Hashim revealed that this proposal initially came from BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu and Housing Task Force Member Bonny Z Minang, with the aim of reviving the property industry.

Prabowo's younger brother also mentioned that this discourse has been discussed several times to reduce the burden faced by developers.

Although the elimination of the tax will reduce the state's revenue from the tax sector, Hashim is optimistic that the loss will be replaced by revenue from other growing sectors, especially from the housing industry which will be more vibrant.

“If we remove the 16% housing tax, the country may lose tax revenue, but later we will gain revenue from other sectors, such as contractors and other sources of income,” he added.

Meanwhile, Housing Task Force Member, Bonny Z Minang, explained that this plan will focus on housing programs for low-income people (MBR).

However, Bonny did not rule out the possibility that the upper middle class segment would also get other schemes to facilitate home ownership in the future.

“Other details will be discussed further,” he explained.
