Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasized that he and the Ministry of Finance team will revise the 2026 Draft State Budget (RAPBN), including adjustments to the fiscal deficit, which had previously been set at 2.48%.
He confirmed that changes will indeed be made, but the extent of those revisions will depend on discussions with the House of Representatives’ Budget Committee. Unfortunately, he has not yet disclosed the details of the adjustments. When pressed further about possible changes to the deficit figure, he also could not provide a definite answer.
“There will definitely be some revisions to the 2026 Draft State Budget, even if only minor ones. I don’t know the details yet, since it depends on the discussions with the Budget Committee (Banggar DPR RI). The 2026 budget deficit could change—it may increase or decrease,” Purbaya explained after attending a Working Meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian Parliament in Central Jakarta, Friday (September 12, 2025).
Regarding the budget deficit, Purbaya underlined that he would continue to manage the state budget with caution.
“The financing target for 2026 is set at Rp638.8 trillion. Everything will be managed prudently and professionally,” he stressed.
Previously, the Ministry of Finance had stated that the 2026 state budget deficit was projected at Rp638.8 trillion, equivalent to 2.48% of GDP. This figure is 3.5% lower than the deficit in 2025. Meanwhile, the primary balance is also expected to be closer to zero, with the primary deficit projected at Rp39.4 trillion in 2026.
