Researchers from Indonesia have proven themselves to be just as capable as their international counterparts. Many of their discoveries have received global recognition.

In fact, several of these innovations are still in use today, not only within Indonesia but also in other countries. The Batam Institute of Technology has highlighted at least seven major inventions by Indonesian scientists, as outlined below:

  1. R.M. Sedyatmo – Inventor of the “Chicken Claw” Foundation
R.M. Sedyatmo developed an infrastructure architectural system known as the chicken claw foundation. This innovative structure has been implemented in places like the runway of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. He graduated from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1934.

  2. Khoirul Anwar – Developer of the Dual FFT Concept
Khoirul Anwar, an alumnus of Japan's Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), introduced the dual Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) concept. This innovation became the foundation of 4G LTE technology and was adopted as a standard by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
He also holds patents for illegal transmitter detection, a technology that could be integrated into 5G networks.

  3. Yogi Ahmad Erlangga – Creator of a Mathematical Formula for Oil and Gas
Yogi efficiently solved the Helmholtz equation using numerical mathematics, enabling seismic data processing to be conducted up to 100 times faster. His work has attracted the attention of major oil companies, including Shell.

  4. Randall Hartolaksono – Inventor of Heat- and Fire-Resistant Fuel from Cassava Peels
A graduate of the University of London, Randall developed a fire- and heat-resistant material from cassava peels. His innovation has been adopted by major automotive companies such as Petronas and Ford.

  5. Muhammad Nurhuda – Creator of Eco-Friendly Stoves
Nurhuda designed an environmentally friendly stove and also developed a prototype system to convert waste into synthetic gas (syngas) as a cleaner energy source. The resulting emissions are well below the minimum safety thresholds set by the WHO.

  6. Tjokorda Raka Sukawati – Inventor of the Sosrobahu Flyover Support System
He invented the Sosrobahu system—also known as the Free-Rotating Support Platform—which allows flyovers to be constructed without disrupting traffic below. This technology has even been utilized in bridge construction projects in Seattle, USA.

  7. Warsito P. Taruno – Developer of Cancer Therapy Device
Warsito designed the Electro-Capacitive Cancer Therapy (ECCT) device, inspired by his determination to help his sister who was battling stage IV breast cancer.
