President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Indonesia, Wang Lutong, for a courtesy visit at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday, May 16, 2025. According to Ambassador Lutong, the meeting was cordial and productive, highlighting the close bilateral relationship that has spanned 75 years between Indonesia and China.

During their discussion, Indonesia’s 8th President and Ambassador Wang reviewed several strategic sectors prioritized for deeper cooperation. These included investments, food security, energy, downstream industrialization, people-to-people connectivity, education, culture, and other key areas.

“We have been working together bilaterally across many sectors such as investment, food, energy, downstream industrialization, cultural and societal connections, education, and more. There’s a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks,” said Wang Lutong at the Presidential Palace complex on Friday (May 16, 2025).

Wang also emphasized the significance of the personal relationship between President Prabowo and China’s President Xi Jinping, describing it as a crucial asset in the strategic partnership between the two nations. He recalled that during their meeting last year, both leaders had reached a number of important agreements.

“They have maintained close communication, regularly exchanging letters and speaking directly. This strong personal relationship is a valuable asset in strengthening our strategic partnership,” the Chinese envoy stated.

Ambassador Wang added that coordination between both countries would continue to be enhanced across various fronts, including business sectors and people-to-people engagement.

“There will be even closer relations between both parties, along with stronger coordination and collaboration between business actors and the broader public from both countries,” he continued.

The meeting served as a positive indicator of the strong commitment from both Indonesia and China to maintain and expand mutually beneficial cooperation—especially in light of the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, which have grown increasingly robust.

Lutong also confirmed that further high-level meetings are expected in the near future, including one involving Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

“Yes, of course, and I look forward to discussing the details. I wish I could share more information now, but we are still in talks with the government team here about all possible arrangements,” concluded Ambassador Lutong.
