DIGIVESTASI - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the value of nickel exports has surged again thanks to downstreaming. Jokowi openly stated that the value of downstream nickel exports could reach up to Rp 500 trillion. Indeed, President Jokowi often mentions the increase in the value of nickel exports due to further processing. Not surprisingly, Indonesia's nickel ore exports before being exported downstream amounted to only $3.3 billion or IDR 50 trillion in 2017-2018, according to the Ministry of Investment (BKPM).

"Before the smelting industry was established, we exported raw materials for years. Raw nickel exports alone are worth around IDR 30 trillion annually. "If the smelter is built, our exports will reach Rp 500 trillion," Jokowi said when opening the 20th session. Quoted on Saturday (3/2/2024), the Muhammadiyah Student Association Meeting was broadcast live via the TVMU YouTube channel.

Jokowi clearly explained that increasing downstream nickel exports would not only benefit the company, but would also have an impact on increasing Indonesian government revenues. For example, from corporate tax, employee income tax to non-taxable state revenue (PNBP).

"What's the point of a company? It's not like that. "Because of the Rupiah appreciation that I mentioned earlier, we collect corporate taxes, employee taxes, receive royalties, receive export duties, and we get everything from PNPB," he explained.
Moreover, if Indonesia invests in the company, it will most likely receive high dividends.

In this way, not only does the company make money, the country also generates substantial revenue.
"This is something we are pushing downstream, not only copper, nickel and tin, but also plantations, fisheries, marine and agriculture." "We need to develop high employment opportunities, starting from domestic value creation opportunities," he said.
