iPhone 16 Officially Coming to Indonesia, Apple Commits Multi-Billion Investment

Great news for Apple fans in Indonesia! After a long-awaited negotiation process, the iPhone 16 series, including the latest iPhone 16e model, is finally confirmed to arrive in the country. This confirmation comes after Apple and Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) reached an agreement regarding the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements.

The deal was sealed after Kemenperin approved Apple's investment plan for the 2025-2028 period as a prerequisite for obtaining the TKDN certification. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that Apple has committed to investing $160 million in cash (approximately IDR 2.6 trillion).

Additionally, Apple has agreed to an extra investment as a penalty for delays in fulfilling previous commitments. This additional investment will be realized through various initiatives, including:

• Construction of an AirTag factory in Batam, worth $150 million (approximately IDR 2.4 trillion).
• A production line for mesh fabric used in AirPods Max in Bandung.
• Establishment of the Apple Software Innovation and Technology Institute, the Apple Professional Developer Academy, and the continuation of the Apple Academy.
• Development of a Research & Development (R&D) Center in Indonesia, focusing on software development and collaborating with 15 top universities.

Since its global launch in September 2024, the iPhone 16 was initially barred from entering Indonesia due to non-compliance with TKDN regulations. However, with this new agreement, Apple's latest flagship device is now set for an official release in Indonesia. Apple enthusiasts across the country will soon be able to experience the cutting-edge technology of the iPhone 16 series without any restrictions.
