Telkom Indonesia: AI Can Boost Efficiency by Up to 40% in State-Owned Enterprises

Jakarta – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk believes that artificial intelligence (AI) can significantly enhance efficiency across various companies, including state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

Fajrin Rasyid, Telkom Indonesia's Director of Digital Business, stated that AI implementation in SOEs has already shown promising results.

"From the research we conducted, both within Telkom and other SOEs, AI can improve efficiency by 30-40%. Tasks that were previously done manually can now be accelerated and automated," he said at a press conference in Senopati, Jakarta, on Wednesday (February 26, 2025).

AI Enhances Asset Inspection and Infrastructure Monitoring

Fajrin explained that AI could be utilized in various fields, one of which is asset inspection. Typically, this process requires a large workforce and substantial costs, especially for SOEs with assets spread across Indonesia.

"With AI-driven image and video analysis, inspections can be conducted more automatically. Field personnel are still needed, but only when necessary," he added.

He highlighted that AI is particularly beneficial for energy sector companies. Previously, inspections had to be done manually, but now AI enables remote monitoring to assess equipment and infrastructure conditions.

"Infrastructure maintenance and inspection processes that used to require personnel traveling to multiple locations can now be supported by AI through video analytics and image analytics. We no longer need to send people everywhere just to check if a machine or device is in good condition," he explained.

AI Optimizes Investment Planning and Unlocks New Business Opportunities

Telkom has also started leveraging AI for more efficient investment planning. Before building infrastructure such as towers or cable networks, the company analyzes the area’s demand using AI.

"For example, we can determine the best locations for network expansion based on AI-driven data analysis. This ensures that our capital expenditure (capex) is optimized, preventing unnecessary investments in areas with low demand," he said.

Beyond efficiency, AI also enables new business opportunities. Telkom, for instance, has integrated video analytics into its CCTV products as an additional service.

"Previously, we only sold CCTV cameras. Now, we offer CCTV with analytics features, allowing customers to monitor foot traffic over specific periods," he revealed.

Fajrin emphasized that AI holds immense potential for the future. "Ultimately, we see AI as a game-changing technology with vast opportunities across various industries," he concluded.
