DIGIVESTASI - Apple officially launched its latest series of phones, the iPhone 16, in an “It's Glowtime” event held at the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California, on Monday (9/9) local time, or early Tuesday morning (10/9) Indonesian time. The new series includes four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 will open from Friday (13/9), and the device will be available in international markets on September 20. However, Indonesia is not included in the list of countries following this schedule, given that the official Apple Store is not yet operational in Indonesia.
iPhone fans in Indonesia usually have to wait a few weeks to get their hands on the device through authorized resellers such as Erajaya's iBox, Digimap, and Blibli. Erajaya, as one of Apple's authorized partners, has yet to confirm when the iPhone 16 will be available in Indonesia. “There is no information yet [when it will be available in Indonesia]. If there is news, it will be delivered soon,” said Didit Putra Erlangga, Corporate Communication of Erajaya Group, via text message on Tuesday (10/9).
Based on previous experience, the launch of the iPhone 16 in Indonesia is likely to take place about a month after the launch in the US. Last year, the iPhone 15 was launched globally on September 15, 2023, while pre-orders in Indonesia only opened on October 20, 2023.
With this reference, the iPhone 16 is expected to be available in Indonesia next month, although there is still a possibility that the launch schedule could be sooner or later.
Here's the iPhone 16 price list at global launch:
- iPhone 16: starting from US$799 (around Rp12.3 million)
- iPhone 16 Plus: starting from US$899 (around Rp13.8 million)
- iPhone 16 Pro: starting from US$999 (around Rp15.4 million)
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: starting from US$1,199 (approx. Rp18.5 million)
Note that prices in Indonesia are likely to be higher due to import duties and taxes. Last year, the iPhone 15 was sold in Indonesia with prices starting at Rp16 million for the lowest variant and reaching Rp33.9 million for the highest variant, while the global price for the base model of the iPhone 15 was only around Rp12.3 million, representing a price difference of around Rp4 million.
