DIGIVESTASI - The United States President-elect, Donald Trump, has launched his own cryptocurrency, which skyrocketed in market capitalization, reaching a value of billions of dollars.

According to a BBC report on Sunday, January 19, 2025, the cryptocurrency named $Trump was launched ahead of Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, scheduled for Monday. The launch of this meme coin was managed by CIC Digital LLC, a subsidiary of the Trump Organization, which previously handled Trump-branded products like shoes and fragrances.

Meme coins such as $Trump are typically used to support viral movements or trends on the internet. However, this type of cryptocurrency lacks intrinsic value and is known as a highly risky investment due to its volatility.

On its launch day, the market capitalization of $Trump reached nearly $5.5 billion.

Just hours after its introduction on Saturday afternoon, the currency’s market value soared to nearly $5.5 billion, as reported by CoinMarketCap.com. CIC Digital LLC, along with Fight Fight Fight LLC—a company newly formed in Delaware this month—owns 80% of the total $Trump tokens. However, no clear information is available yet regarding Trump’s potential financial gains from the project.

Trump promoted his cryptocurrency via the Truth Social media platform on Friday night. “My NEW Official Trump Meme is HERE! Time to celebrate all our battles: WINNING!” Trump wrote.

The official website for the $Trump coin states that approximately 200 million digital tokens have been issued, with an additional 800 million tokens set to be released gradually over the next three years.

“This Trump Meme is designed to honor a leader who never backs down, no matter the challenges he faces,” the website states.
