DIGIVESTASI - Telegram, one of the world's largest messaging platforms with more than 900 million monthly active users, announced a major step in the application of blockchain technology.

At the Token2049 event in Dubai (April 19, 2024), Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of Telegram, spoke about tokenizing stickers and emojis on his platform and dedicating them to the Open Network (TON). NFT). block chain.
Mr. Durov emphasized the importance of NFTs, which are closely related to human culture and social interaction, saying: Stickers are shared more than 700 billion times every month on Telegram. The number of stamp views is amazing. We believe that emojis can also become NFTs. "

The move is expected to put NFTs at the center of online communication, expand their reach, and further enhance the creativity of the way users express themselves.

Telegram's steps to monetize your user base
Telegram has previously taken a different approach to monetizing its user base than other major messaging and social media platforms, which sell user data to advertisers. Telegram recently announced plans to share revenue with content creators on the platform through an ad network.

Durov said the move is one of the most generous revenue-sharing models in the history of social media. He also said that 50% of the revenue Telegram receives from ad views and broadcast channels will be distributed to channel owners and content creators using the TON network.

"All these transactions, ad payments, ad withdrawals, are done by blockchain. We will exclusively use the TON blockchain for this," he said.

Durov said the advertising market running on the blockchain could be worth tens of billions of dollars, with users ranging from large group chat owners to content creators ensuring fair revenue sharing.
The use of the blockchain protocol also allows Telegram to bypass Apple and Google's strict in-app purchasing mechanisms when it comes to payment processing.

However, Telegram allows app developers and sellers to sell physical goods and services by integrating 40 payment providers, including Stripe.

TON blockchain attracts attention
Meanwhile, the TON blockchain is also gaining attention, especially with the recent integration of Tether's USDT and XAUT stablecoins. This opens the door for peer-to-peer payments and decentralized applications on TON, which could greatly benefit Telegram's vast user base.

Durov believes the TON blockchain can handle the scale of Telegram's needs, processing millions to hundreds of millions of transactions. This is a strategic move that strengthens Telegram in responding to the growing needs of its users.
