DIGIVESTASI - President Prabowo Asserts 8 Percent Economic Growth Target is Achievable

The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, expressed that despite skepticism and criticism regarding the 8 percent economic growth target, he remains confident that this target can be achieved, and even surpassed.

Prabowo stated that although he has only been in office for three months, he has studied Indonesia's economic conditions and feels increasingly optimistic about the nation's economic growth prospects.

“I have only been leading for three months, and as I continue to study our economy, I am more convinced that we will achieve, and possibly exceed, the 8 percent growth target,” said Prabowo at the National Consolidation Meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), held at the Ritz-Carlton, Jakarta, on Thursday (January 16, 2025).

Despite the widespread skepticism surrounding the target, Prabowo emphasized that this does not serve as an obstacle. He believes that this negative attitude reflects a weakness in the mentality of some of Indonesia's elites, who lack confidence. According to him, this may be influenced by the long history of colonization, which has led some individuals to feel inferior.

“Perhaps many are dismissing this because it is one of the weaknesses of Indonesia's elites, who lack confidence and often feel envious of others' success. This is a trait that we need to correct, which might have emerged from being colonized for too long,” he explained.

However, Prabowo added that this situation has started to change since he assumed leadership in Indonesia. With the support of his cabinet ministers, he is optimistic that Indonesia will surprise many with significant achievements in the near future. “Since I took office, with the help of my ministers, I am confident that we will make great surprises in the near future,” Prabowo stated.
